24-29 August 2009, we started a training course for teachers in Rembang as entitled above. To my surprise, the training participants were very enthusiastic to learn as the training course was such a new thing for most of them.
First day, I started to check how many of them have email account. See...not that many, then I had to start facilitating them to create their email accounts. Though the internet access was a bit slow, they could complete setting up their email acounts, and even subscribed to a maling list (Rembang 500K) I created at the same time. And then...gubraaaakkkkk....the computers were down at around 2 o'clock. Nothing we could do. Talked to the commettee, and got the answer that they need to repair the network. No choice....the session ended. Participants leave the training venue. I pushed the committee to repair the computer lab, and to speed up the internet access.
Day 2, yes, here we are. Continuing the session with facebook for instructions. The internet was such a great thing and all participants created their facebook accounts. What is it for learning? As facebook has been a trend for many people, including teenagers (students), we are trying to use the facebook as a media for instructions. See what happen, teachers created their note icon in the facebook for instructions. The other half day was Moodle by Abbas. As creating learning material in moodle needs more time, we continued to the next day.
Day 3, Moodle again. But see...participants creating their moodle while updating their facebook. I had to ask them to sto their facebook for a while and give more time to creating moodle. But still....facebook seems more interesting for them. At around 3 pm, participants were exhausted and we had to end up the session.
Day 4, Still completing the moodle with assessment, particpants seemed not really satisfied as the time was very limited. They actually need more time to create a complete learning material. Hopefully they will be able to complete it by their own as they know already how to do it. Blogger...yes, by Anthony Sutedja, a teacher from Semarang. Thanks a lot pak Anthony for lending a hand in this course. And this blog account was created under instruction from pak Anthony.
Day 5,...presentation from particpants and closing, heading to Semarang and leaving on a jet plane. Back to Jakarta.
